Racism leaves you with a nasty feeling that even your subconsciousness can conjure while you sleep. In a world where knowledge and experience should be the ultimate qualifiers, the insidious influence of race-based biases continues to cast a long, ugly shadow.

Imagine being in a room where your expertise is dismissed solely because of the color of your skin, a scenario that reflects the pervasive issue of systemic racism. You probably don’t have to imagine. It happens to you regularly. In my book, Economic Racism, I wrote about the experiences of several people, including my own. In this blog post, I want to highlight the frustration and disempowerment caused by the belief in whiteness. I want to examine its impact on professional interactions and opportunities.

The Bad Dream Sequence: Freddie K.

I recently had a vivid dream that encapsulated the essence of my struggle against the preconceived notions associated with race. In this dream, I found myself face-to-face with an individual entrusted with influencing agricultural policies on a global scale. Okay, the topic was weird, but my subconscious has lots of material to work with; that’s the point!
