Thanks, Frances! Nice piece. It reminds of of a two friends—a lovely couple, but hindered to take their relationship further because of the woman’s Vietnamese mother’s prejudices against black men. They are dating several years now, but seem to hesitate to taking the relationship further. My friend has a sibling who actually married a black man, and their mother ostracized them. She is afraid of losing her mother, and the guy is afraid of not being accepted by her mother. It’s such unnecessary and destructive behavior over a fantasy white people created for themselves!
