I have had the infamous:
“you behave like a white person in black skin!” - black woman.
“Where is your accent from, is it British?” - white women and men, black women.
“You speak very good English, where did you go to school?” - white women and men.
“We call you professor behind your back because you are so smart” - black woman.
“You are so smart!” - white women and men, and black people.
“Why are you always so dressed up?” - white men.
“You are not from around these parts, are you?” - black people

The “low-hanging-fruit” was used in my office by everyone. I never gave it much thought until you said so. Everyday I learn from others of me micro aggressions.

I can’t remember them all, and I can’t say they all are racist, but I always get a feeling like that’s a weird thing to say in the conversation and, like you, the comment sticks like a leech sucking out the happiness in the day. Like “bless your heart,” it does not come from a good place by the perpetrators.

It amazes me how deep and ingrained racism is in all of us who when through colonialism.
